Saw more mountains today. We are now seeing the Canadian rockies and we are heading over to Alberta. The first place we went to was Rogers Pass. Rogers Pass is where the Canadian Pacific Railway and the Trans Canadian Highway traverses. The highway is the one we were on for the majority of the day, also known as No.1 Highway. Rogers Pass is 1,330 m (4,364 ft) in elevation. We took pictures of the summit. It was really cold up there. Nice way to wake up. The bone chilling cold in the morning. We were able to see ground squirrels, squirrels that live in the ground instead of the trees. They came out and one of them even posed for us as we were taking pictures of them.



Aren't they just adorable? After that we headed to see the Natural Bridge. The natural bridge is located over the Kicking Horse River in Yoho national Park. How is it a natural bridge? Well it is a rock that had been eroded by the constant rushing of water and it has created a bridge. Kicking Horse river


See the formation of the rock? It was created by the rushing of the water and it eroded the limestone.
The next site brought us over to Alberta, the next province over. We are no longer in British Columbia so the tax is 5% GST in Alberta.

I think this next site was the highlight of the day. We went to Lake Louise also known as the "Jewel of the Rockies". We had a buffet lunch at the really nice hotel , The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Took so many pictures there. The dining room has a spectacular view of Lake Louise.  
Really Magnificent. Next stop we went to Moraine Lake. It is shown on the old 1969 and 1979 issues of Canadian $20 bill. It is situated in the Valley of Ten peaks. It is glacially- fed and the lake is in the Banff National Park. The lake has this really pretty blue color and from what the tour guide said, it's beacuse of light refraction off of the rock flour in the lake. (ooo physics).

Next Stop is Banff, the town famous for it's scenery and is also located in Banff national park. Had a Thai dinner there.

After dinner we went to Bow Falls. Famous because Marilyn Monroe filmed the 1953 "River of No Return"
I forgot to take the actual picture of Bow Falls, but I did take pictures of the surrounding scenery.... So I got this picture of Bow falls from the web:

To tell the truth, I was a little dissapointed. When the tour guide talked about Bow Falls, I imagined it to be a waterfall falling from many feet up high and you had to either look up or down. But I saw it and I was like huh? This is it? Apparently Bow falls is famous because of the movie. But it was still very scenic.

Our last stop was this lake. I forgot the name. It was not on our Itinerary, the bus driver gave us an extra site.

Oh and to end the day we saw these... deer?goats?

We stayed overnight at Stoney Nakoda Resort and Casino.

Today we headed off to our road trip to the Canadian Rockies. Left the house at 7:00 am and headed to Chinatown to get picked up by the tour bus. Here are the places we will be passing today: Hope, Merritt, Kelowna, Vernon, Sicamus and Revelstoke. Most of these are little towns. Our first site was Okanagan. We saw Okanagan Lake. It is very huge. The Scenery is really beautiful. The lakes reflect the mountains and the sky. Oh! It's so beautiful :) Kelowna was the place where the Ogopogo sea monster was rumored to have been spotted. Ogopogo is a lake monster that lives in Lake Okanagan. Kelowna is also famous for it's fruit orchards. The really hot summer and really cold winters is what produces the good tasting fruits. Later we went to Calona vineyeards. If you are 19 years or older, you could participate in the wine testing. There was the famous Ice Wines. Then we went to a fruit market on the side of the road ang bought fresh fruits. After that we went to Planet Bee and bought honey. Our last stop was to see the Last Spike. The Canadian Pacific Railway is like the transcontinental railway. It connects Canada from the east coast to the west coast.

Tonight we will be staying at  Revelstoke Sandman Inn.

I got back yesterday at 12:30 a.m. we were supposed to arrive in Honolulu at 8:40 p.m. So what happened? People in the front saw ashes fly into the cabin and we smelt this really strong diesel smell. As a result we had to go back into the terminal and wait for  2 hours before boarding again. I think they said one of the fans were breaking down. I don't really remember because I was too tired and sleepy. Good thing they got it fixed. I wouldn't mind if they spent 10 hours as long as the plane was safe.
I think I have a bit of jet lag... but when I am fully rested, I will start to blog my trip and share some of my pictures :)

Today we arrived in Vancouver. It's a bit chilly. Today we spent the whole day walking. Walking where? We walked Chinatown, Gastown and Downtown of Vancouver. My feet hurt so much from walking today but I was able to take many pretty pictures.  Today we also went to Super Vacations (travel agency) and we signed up for a 4-day bus tour to the rocky mountains. Also today I rode the bus for the first time in Vancouver and got home just fine(I didn't get lost). Taking the bust costs $2.50 for everyone. They have higher prices for going further. For example, going two zones would probably cost you $3.50. Two zones would mean like going from Vancouver to Burnaby, or Vancouver to Richmond. Three zones would be like from Vancouver to Burnaby to Richmond. Kind of complicated. Well we will be heading off to the Canadian Rockies tomorrow :)

Canada Trip 2010

In the following posts I will be blogging about trip to Canada. The dates for the posts will be different but in the posts I will indicate the date.

Also some notes... 

- the daily entries are written down daily in my notebook. It is because of the lack of internet access so I have to blog this way. I am basically typing what I wrote down that same day.

- throughout the posts, I may not include that many pictures, so there will be limited or no pictures at all.  I will spend time to edit when I fly back home.I can assure you there will be lots of pictures.

- all pictures in this series are taken by me. Please do not use these for purposes other than enjoyment. Please give credit if you will be using pictures from these posts.
